National Sustainable Urban Energy Needs Assessment & Strategy Formulation

This project will provide prospective partners an opportunity to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Energy, state energy offices, municipal energy officials and end-users, in establishing a roadmap for the deployment of sustainable energy technologies and practices in urban communities across the United States. Sustainable energy technologies and practices are those that increase energy security, independence, affordability, reliability and efficiency while reducing the release of energy-related pollutants to the local and global environment.

The 18-month project will produce:
  • The nation’s first “State-of-the-Cities” report, characterizing the current deployment of sustainable energy technology and management practices in the United States
  • A report identifying technical, economic, social and institutional barriers to greater deployment
  • A series of close-up reports focusing on potential roles and opportunities for individual energy producer and consumer segments in sustainable urban energy development
  • A national strategy for sustainable urban energy development and deployment over the next 20 years, including a set of recommended public-private research, development, and deployment initiatives across this mid-term planning horizon.
